February marked one year in a bullet journal for me. I remember going through a hard time and my sister urging me to try it. One particularly rough day at work, I was walking around on my lunch break when I bought a teal notebook and a set of pens. I remember scrolling through Pinterest extremely intimidated by what I saw, thinking that maybe this isn’t for me. But I took my first steps and just put words on the page. A brain dump of what was bothering me. The next day, I wrote out a list of what I needed to do. I pushed myself everyday to use it as I needed it.
There were weeks where it sat on my desk or in my bag, completely untouched. So I would force myself to try again. I even attempted to set reflection time to write stuff down (this didn’t work for me at all). I kept trying to make this work for me as I knew I needed something to help alleviate my stress and anxiety.
A New Routine
At this time, we were ramping up our planning for moving to San Francisco. We were moving for 2 years before going back home. The whole time this was going on, I was telling my friends that “I will be putting my life on hold for two years”. At the time, this seemed reasonable. However, once we were settled down in our new (albeit temporary home), I realized how ridiculous this sounded. And with that, My Daubi Mill Life was born. Upon perusing Instagram to see what was out there and what I wanted to try, I came across a modern calligraphy workshop and a creative planning course. Never in my life would I have believed that within 6 months I’d be doing calligraphy, planning creatively in my bullet journal, and doodling my own stickers!
Going forward, I’m not sure what will come of this but I am SO grateful I took my head out of my butt and took this opportunity to learn. I am loving learning so many more and different artistic techniques. My appreciation and gratitude for this opportunity grows everyday. It’s not always easy and we still have a lot of everyday stressors, but I’m not spending this time idle, wishing for something else.
